Dear Senior Corps Project
Directors and Friends of
Senior Corps,
Good news so far, but the
struggle continues, keep
asking your Republican
Representatives to support the
GIVE Act.
Today,
the House of Representatives
took a very positive step and
brought up the GIVE ACT for
passage, it now has a new
number, HR 5563.
The GIVE bill was
considered under a complicated
procedure called suspension.
That means the bill
must pass the House by a two
thirds majority, not just a
simple majority.
After 40 minutes of
debate, the House called for a
voice vote of yes or no on the
bill.
After the voice vote,
the speaker said that two
thirds of the members said
yea, so the yeas have it.
However, Congressman
Miller, Chair of the Education
and Labor Committee who wrote
the bill and is the sponsor,
said he wanted a recorded
vote.
That recorded vote is
now scheduled for tomorrow
(Wednesday).
So, the GIVE Act has
NOT yet passed the House of
Representatives.
But things look very
good, keep up the support.
Continue to tell
Republican members of Congress
that you support the bill and
that you ask them to vote yes
to the GIVE Act, HR 5563.
Thanks you so much for
all of your hard work, keep up
the support now and continue
telling Republican
Representatives that this is
the top priority for the
national service community and
ask them to vote yes.
