New
Information on Possible
Cuts to Senior Corps:
Today,
Speaker of the House,
Nancy Pelosi, agreed to
cut spending in all 12
appropriations areas to
meet the limits set by
the President.
Previously, Mrs. Pelosi
had said they would not
cut spending;
instead they
would cut special
projects that would save
all the money necessary
to meet the limits set
by the President.
According to today's
announcement,
the plan is to cut
spending in all areas
necessary. Senior Corps
funding is within the
Labor HHS Appropriations
Bill. We have no idea if
they will cut Senior
Corps funding but in
order to be proactive,
NSCA's Washington
Representative Priscilla
Chatman has been busy
today contacting the
offices of Speaker
Pelosi and the
Appropriations
leadership. Cuts in
appropriations bills are
expected to take place
by the end of the week.

MESSAGE:
As
Congress considers cuts
to appropriations
funding, I am calling as
a supporter of the
National Senior Corps
programs funded by Labor
HHS appropriations; I
urge that the meager
funding for these vital
programs not be cut
further. These
programs have received
only level funding for
three years, considering
inflation, this is three
years of cuts.
The
NSCA speaks for 1,335
program directors
nationwide and 486,500
senior volunteers
contributing 120,600,000
hours of service
annually. All of
these advocates, along
with the clients we
serve and their
families, urge you not
to cut funding to Senior
Corps programs.
Thank you.
